FAQ

Your solar questions, answered honestly.

Six categories. Forty-plus questions. Pulled from the calls we get most often. If your question is not here, our Bristol office picks up at 203-903-4091.

General

About Teamsun .

How much does solar cost in CT, MA, or RI?

A typical 8 – 12 kW residential system runs $25,000 – $40,000 before incentives. After the federal ITC, state rebates, and net metering, most homeowners see effective costs 40 – 60% lower over the first five years. We model your specific roof in Aurora before quoting.

How long from signed contract to a working system?

47 days on average across our last 12 months of CT, MA, and RI installs. About 7 – 10 days for the site visit and design lock, 20 – 30 days for permitting and utility interconnection, 2 – 3 days on the roof, and 5 – 15 days for utility approval.

Do you use subcontractors?

No. Every Teamsun install is done by W-2 employees on our payroll. The crew lead who walks your roof at the site visit is the same crew lead who installs your system, and the same person who picks up the phone if you call about service in year five.

What states do you serve?

Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island as primary service area. Plus Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Florida for project work on request. License numbers are included on every quote and contract.

Are you a franchise or part of a national company?

Neither. Teamsun is the install arm of Green Enterprises, a privately owned New England company. Not a franchise, not VC-backed, not an exit clock. Dan answers the phone at 203-903-4091.

Equipment

Panels, batteries, inverters .

What panels do you install?

Tier 1 only — REC Group, Q CELLS, and Silfab as our default brands. The exact panel and inverter brand is named on every proposal. We do not write substitution language into our contracts.

What batteries do you install?

FranklinWH, Tesla Powerwall 3, and Enphase IQ Battery 5P. Three Tier 1 brands, picked per-project based on your existing solar (if any), your roof load profile, and your backup goals.

What inverters do you install?

Enphase IQ8 microinverters or SolarEdge HD-Wave string + DC optimizers. We pick by roof shading and load profile, not by what is cheapest this month.

Do you install non-Tier-1 equipment if I ask?

No. The cost savings on Tier 2 panels do not pencil over a 25-year warranty horizon. We will not put on a roof what we will not put on our own families' homes.

Incentives

Federal, state, and utility .

What incentives can I claim?

Federal ITC (30%), state battery rebates (CT ESS up to $7,500, MA Connected Solutions performance payments), full retail net metering (CT RRES, MA Net Metering + SMART, RI Net Metering or REG), and CT property and sales tax exemptions. We file every form with you.

Does Teamsun give tax advice?

No. We provide the cost-basis documentation your CPA needs to claim the federal ITC and state credits, but we do not file Form 5695 for you. Always consult a tax professional for your specific situation.

Do batteries qualify for the federal ITC?

Yes — under the Inflation Reduction Act, batteries 3 kWh or larger qualify for the 30% federal credit, including standalone batteries with no solar attached. Every battery Teamsun installs exceeds the 3 kWh floor.

Can I claim the ITC on a lease or PPA?

No. On a lease or PPA, the third-party owner of the system claims the federal ITC. You receive the benefit indirectly through a lower fixed rate per kWh. Cash and loan structures let you claim the ITC directly.

Financing

Cash, loan, PPA, lease .

What credit score do I need to qualify?

Cash and pre-paid lease require no credit check. Loans typically start at 680 FICO. Our PPA underwrites at 620 FICO — the lowest threshold of any major installer in New England.

Do I have to put money down?

$0 down options are available on three of our four financing structures (loan, PPA, PPL). Cash is the only structure that requires upfront capital — and gets the highest lifetime ROI.

Will you run my credit just to get a quote?

No. The Aurora-modeled proposal requires no credit pull. Credit is only run if and when you decide to apply for a loan or PPA.

Are there prepayment penalties on the loan?

Most of our lender partners do not have prepayment penalties, but specific loan products vary. Every loan offer comes with a written disclosure that names any prepayment penalty in plain English.

Install scope

What we install .

Do you bundle solar with re-roofing?

Yes — we re-roof and install solar on the same timeline. One crew, one contract, one warranty path. Recommended if your roof is over 12 years from end-of-life.

I already have solar — can you add a battery?

Yes. We retrofit batteries onto solar systems we did not install — most installers refuse this work. Any brand, any age, AC- or DC-coupled.

Do you service systems we did not install?

Yes. Production drops, inverter faults, monitoring outages, panel cleaning — we service every solar system in CT, MA, or RI. We file manufacturer warranty claims on your behalf even if the original installer is out of business.

Do you do commercial work?

Yes. 25 kW – 500 kW commercial roofs and ground mounts. Stamped engineering, full permitting, MACRS depreciation guidance via your CPA. Hartford, Worcester, Cambridge, and Providence are our highest-volume commercial markets.

Service & support

After the system is live .

What happens if something breaks in year five or year ten?

You call our Bristol office at 203-903-4091 and a person picks up. Manufacturer warranties cover panels for 25 years, inverters for 10 – 25 years, and batteries for 10 – 15 years. We service systems we installed and ones we did not.

How fast can you respond to a service request?

Production-loss diagnostics: same-day remote check. On-site visits: 5 – 10 business days for non-emergency. Storm damage and total system outage: usually within 48 hours, prioritized over routine service.

What if Teamsun goes out of business?

Manufacturer warranties (25-year panels, 10 – 25 year inverters, 10 – 15 year batteries) are honored by the manufacturers directly even if Teamsun ever closed. The 9,000-install track record and our private-ownership structure are why we are still here, but the warranty math does not depend on our continued existence.

Do you transfer warranties when I sell my house?

Yes. Teamsun workmanship warranty and manufacturer warranties both transfer to the new homeowner. The system stays with the property. Some financing structures (PPA, lease) require the new owner to qualify or buy out — we walk you through this if you sell.

The Hwang family Homeowners · Glastonbury, CT
“Same lead tech who installed it came back four years later to swap an inverter under warranty. No charge, no excuses.”
