A solar sale can involve a marketing or sales company, contracting entity, engineering provider, installation contractor, electrician, roofer, lender, system owner, monitoring platform, and warranty provider. They do not have to be one company. They do have to be identifiable and connected by written responsibilities.

For production, request annual and monthly kWh plus the input trail: layout, system DC and AC capacity, weather file, shade method, system losses, clipping, snow treatment, export constraints, availability assumption, and degradation treatment. What money and contract questions prevent a misleading comparison?
Ask for the gross cash price before conditional incentives even if you expect financing. That one number anchors the equipment and construction scope. Then compare any loan, lease, or power-purchase agreement as a separate ownership and financing decision.
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau found that some solar-specific loans embed fees or markups in the principal, present presumed tax benefits as if universal, and can change required payments if an expected prepayment is not made (CFPB solar-financing issue spotlight). Ask the company to name what it controls and what an authority or third party controls. The installer can control submittal quality, correction effort, customer communication, field staffing, and its own service process. It cannot unilaterally approve interconnection, set every utility upgrade, schedule an inspector, decide a tax result, or guarantee equipment availability.
New England utility paths are not interchangeable. Warranty duration alone does not answer who helps.
