Choose FranklinWH aPower S when a 15-kWh unit, higher published battery-only power, direct solar inputs, documented generator charging, and aGate source control fit the design. Choose Enphase IQ Battery 10C when a current fourth-generation Enphase architecture, 10-kWh expansion steps, embedded battery microinverters, and Combiner 6C controls fit better. Neither brand wins automatically for an existing Enphase solar home because the exact microinverters, gateway, prior batteries, backup interface, utility, and service provider can reverse the answer.

This comparison matches two current U.S. products as of August 10, 2026: FranklinWH aPower S, SKU APRS-10K15V1-US and nameplate aPower S-10, against Enphase IQ Battery 10C, model IQBATTERY-10C-1P-NA. It does not blend aPower 2, aPower X, IQ Battery 5P, IQ Battery 10T, or the announced IQ Battery 10CS into their specifications.

Why aPower S rather than aPower 2? Search results often use aPower 2 because it was the common 2025 comparison. FranklinWH’s current document center identifies aPower S as a separate U.S. product, its February 2026 data sheet adds a hybrid inverter and direct PV inputs, and its August 2026 installation guide supplies the current design path. aPower 2 remains a separate current AC-coupled product and may still deserve a quote for some retrofits. A seller may not substitute its specifications into this page.

Direct answer: Put aPower S first on the quote list when one unit’s 15 kWh, 10-kW battery-only output, four direct-PV MPPTs, aGate controls, and a released generator path solve the job. Put IQ Battery 10C first when 10-kWh increments, fourth-generation Enphase solar integration, distributed battery microinverters, and Combiner 6C controls solve it. Quote both only after the same loads, one-line, winter location, program assumptions, warranty labor, and service duties are fixed.

What specifications are comparable between aPower S and IQ Battery 10C?

One aPower S publishes more usable energy and more continuous output than one IQ Battery 10C, but its 11.5-kW figure includes a PV-input condition. Enphase publishes continuous output in kVA and current over stated durations. Preserve those units and conditions instead of creating a synthetic “peak kW” ranking.

The table is not a runtime estimate. Energy in kWh helps answer how long loads may run; continuous power or apparent power limits what can run together; short-duration current and LRA help evaluate motor starting. A heat pump, well pump, air conditioner, resistance heater, range, dryer, or EV charger needs its actual nameplate and operating sequence tested against the complete system.

Use blank calculations only:

Planning energy (kWh) = sum of average load kW × intended operating hours

Required delivered energy = planning energy + documented reserve and modeled temperature, conversion, and aging allowances

Actual duration depends on state of charge, cycling loads, temperature, age, controls, solar, snow, program dispatch, and occupant behavior. The dedicated whole-home sizing page owns the deeper calculation; this page uses loads only to choose which architecture deserves a proposal.

How do the architectures change a new solar project or retrofit?

aPower S has the more direct new-solar path of the pair. Its hybrid inverter accepts direct PV through four MPPTs, with a published 20-kW maximum solar STC input and 15-kW maximum continuous total MPPT output. Array voltage, current, rapid-shutdown equipment, roof planes, service rating, utility limits, and the exact nameplate output still control the design.

The direct-PV feature is not automatically used in an existing-solar retrofit. Existing Enphase or other AC solar may remain on an AC integration path through a supported FranklinWH design, while new PV may land on aPower S. FranklinWH publishes a broad Enphase compatibility statement and a PV-curtailment paper, but a contract still needs every existing microinverter, gateway, current transformer, firmware version, branch, interconnection record, and supported one-line. “Works with Enphase” is not an equipment schedule (FranklinWH Enphase compatibility orientation).

IQ Battery 10C is AC-coupled and belongs to Enphase’s fourth-generation system. It requires IQ Combiner 6C. Backup requires IQ Meter Collar; Enphase says the battery and combiner can operate without that collar, but the site will not have backup. The system supports specified IQ- and M-series solar paths, but it is not a drop-in addition to every Enphase-branded site.

Enphase says 10C cannot use an older IQ Gateway or older IQ Combiner. Certain IQ-series PV can migrate into Combiner 6C; M-series PV must remain with IQ Gateway Metered and connect through the documented control route. Existing IQ Battery 3/3T, 10/10T, or 5P cannot directly integrate with 10C and must remain on separate architecture (Enphase fourth-generation FAQ).

For an existing array, the relevant project path is battery retrofit design. That service link does not prove either exact model or mixed-equipment configuration is available or supported.

Which system better supports 120/240 V loads, expansion, and load control?

aPower S publishes the stronger single-unit load-start case; IQ Battery 10C offers smaller energy increments and specific fourth-generation load-control routes. Neither maximum-system number proves that every unit can deliver its nameplate output simultaneously through the service, controller, conductors, or utility connection.

FranklinWH lists nominal 120/240 V and 120/208 V, a 5-kW maximum half-wave load capability, 100% load-imbalance ratio, 15 kW for 10 seconds, 25 kW for one second, and 185 A LRA. Those values still require the applicable aPower nameplate, configured breaker/output, motor data, other simultaneous loads, and controller design. They are not permission to run every 120-V load on one leg.

Enphase publishes 7.08 kVA and 29.5 A for balanced 240-V line-to-line loads. Its footnote says a maximum 24 A of 120-V line-to-neutral unbalanced load can be supported along with 5.5 A of 240-V line-to-line load. That specific simultaneous condition is more useful than a generic “split-phase capable” label. A proposal should show the 120-V leg balance, 240-V motors, neutral, start current, and load-shedding sequence.

FranklinWH’s current generator guidance describes manual or scheduled operation and charging through an optional aGate connection. That is a real manufacturer pathway, not universal generator compatibility. Fix the generator make/model/controller, start method, voltage sensing, fuel, power, transfer sequence, firmware, exercise behavior, permits, and commissioning test.

Enphase describes an IQ Smart Switch expected in 2026, but its current FAQ still answers “No” to 10C generator integration. An announced accessory earns zero score until it has an orderable model, final manual, compatibility list, local availability, approved one-line, utility/AHJ acceptance, and commissioning support.

Which has the better New England placement and efficiency case?

Neither wins from a minimum-temperature headline. aPower S documents an integrated heater and a wide operating band; IQ Battery 10C publishes unusually clear full-power temperature bands. The site should be designed from derating, snow/access, and service conditions—not only the lowest printed temperature.

The efficiency numbers do not share the same endpoints. Franklin’s 90.5% begins with solar and ends at load under a defined test; Enphase’s 90% measures the AC battery round trip and excludes a separate solar conversion upstream. Do not subtract 90 from 90.5 and predict annual savings. Ask for the measurement boundary, test power and temperature, auxiliary use, part-load behavior, and one project model using identical load and solar inputs.

A New England site plan should document winter design temperature, expected charge/discharge derating, heater or conditioning energy, direct sun, snow and ice clearance, drainage, flood exposure, vehicle impact, wall/foundation capacity, ventilation, communications, and service access. How do warranty, monitoring, connectivity, and field service differ?

Both battery headlines say 15 years, but Franklin uses a 60-MWh throughput endpoint and 70% retention; Enphase uses a 6,000-cycle endpoint, 70% at year 10, and 60% at the final endpoint. Years alone cannot identify the better warranty.

FranklinWH uses the FranklinWH App and its controller communications path. Enphase publishes wired control communication, IQ Gateway functions in Combiner 6C, Enphase App and Installer Platform monitoring, and API integration. Those are feature descriptions—not proof of uptime, app preference, cellular coverage, data retention, cybersecurity outcomes, or local response.

Require a service matrix naming who sees an alert, has owner-authorized remote access, opens a case, supplies diagnostic evidence, pays labor/travel/shipping/access, replaces each component, restores monitoring and program enrollment, and assumes support if the original installer exits the brand. Not universally. aPower S publishes more energy and battery-only continuous output per unit, direct PV inputs, and a released generator route. IQ Battery 10C offers current fourth-generation Enphase architecture, 10-kWh increments, distributed microinverters and Combiner 6C controls. The installed load and architecture decide.

Why compare aPower S instead of aPower 2?

aPower S has a separate current U.S. SKU, February 2026 data sheet, direct-PV hybrid inverter and current installation guide, making it the cleaner current match for this 2026 article. aPower 2 remains a separate AC-coupled model that may fit some retrofits; do not mix its specifications with aPower S.

Does one aPower S store more energy than one IQ Battery 10C?

Yes. Franklin publishes 15 kWh usable per aPower S; Enphase publishes 10.0 kWh total and usable per 10C. That five-kWh difference does not predict runtime until the loads, reserve, temperature, losses, age and solar recharge are modeled equally.
